day 1 01 / 72
core module · week 2 · a three-day programme

communication fundamentals

think clearly. articulate precisely. create understanding.

Anju Lalmentor · communication foundations

1
day 1

foundation

self-awareness to clear thinking

session 0 · 2 hours

the communication audit

before any framework: where do you actually stand?

opening

one word.

how does communication feel to you right now? not the performance-review version. the real one.

the core idea

communication is strategic thinking, made visible.

everything across the next three days builds from this one sentence.

self-assessment

the communication identity map

score yourself, privately, on five dimensions.

dimension 01 & 02

clarity & presence

clarityhow often people ask you to repeat or clarify what you meant
presencehow you show up when the pressure is on
dimension 03 & 04

structure & persuasion

structurewhether your point lands before your explanation does
persuasionwhether people act on what you say, not just nod at it
dimension 05

confidence

how much you edit yourself before you speak. this is your baseline. you'll return to it at the end of Term 1.

paired reflection

the cost of unclear communication

tell a partner about one moment your communication, not your idea, cost you something.

naming the pattern

what did you notice about yourself?

hold onto it. next session gives it a name and a framework.

bridge

you've named where you stand.

now we build the architecture.

session 1 · 2 hours

the architecture of clear thinking

most communication problems are actually thinking-structure problems.

the lens

is communication a trait, or a capability?

the people who build it believe it's buildable.

the object activity

explain, unprepared, in 30 seconds.

reach for any object nearby. 20 seconds to prepare. 30 seconds to explain why it matters.

question 01

the ambani question

thirty seconds in a lift with someone who could change your business. one sentence. a test of compression.

question 02

the phone question

your most important stakeholder calls, unannounced. what's the first sentence out of your mouth? a test of instinct.

question 03

scientist vs. vendor

are you presenting like a scientist, or closing like a vendor? a test of framing.

the reveal

six patterns. one room. all at once.

on the count of three, walk to the corner that matches you.

the corners reveal

six communication archetypes

the over-explainer
the apologiser
the interrupter
the vanisher
the performer
the translator
the take-back framework

anchor. connect. ask.

anchoropen with your point
connectbridge to why it matters to them
askclose with a specific question
low-stakes practice

the chai roleplay

a small, real ask. use ACA out loud. swap and repeat.

the other half

active listening

you've practised being heard. now the harder skill: hearing.

the flip

listen to understand, not to reply.

most people spend the other person's sentence composing their own. the frameworks only work if the input is real.

drill · pairs, 2 minutes each way

the second question

your first question is always scripted. the second one, built on what they actually said, is the proof you listened. ask it before you say anything about yourself.

why this matters tonight

this toolkit leaves the room with you.

Mission 01, the Stranger Conversation, begins this evening. a real conversation, anywhere in Kochi, with someone you don't know. the second question is how you open them up.

2
day 2

presence & the pressure lab

session 2 · 2 hours

presence, body language & vocal confidence

why composure collapses under observation, and how to close that gap.

reframing presence

presence is a gap.

the space between what you're thinking and what your body is doing while you think it.

vocal grounding

the two-second pause

say your name and role. hold two full seconds before your last word.

room awareness

the eye contact sweep

hold each section of the room for a full sentence before moving on.

stage awareness

own the floor

take three deliberate steps when you land a key point.

demonstration

rooted vs. moving.

same sentence, delivered two ways. notice the difference.

listening, under observation

the two harder drills

presence isn't only how you speak. it's what you do while the other person is speaking.

drill · pairs

the echo check

before you respond, play back what you heard in one line. they confirm or correct. you'll be surprised how often it's correct.

drill · pairs

the five-second silence

when they stop talking, hold five full seconds before you respond. almost every speaker fills that silence with the most honest thing they say all round.

carry it forward

record how you listen, not just how you speak.

in the next exercise, the camera catches both: your answer under pressure, and what your face and body did while the question was being asked.

record & review

body language under observation.

a partner records you answering a hard question. 60 seconds.

review

watch it back together.

note one specific thing to change. not everything. just one.

debrief

data, not judgment.

this is information-gathering about yourself, not self-criticism.

bridge

presence that only survives in a calm room isn't presence yet.

let's find out what's actually automatic.

extension · 2 hours

the pressure lab

stress-testing presence, structure, and ACA. on purpose, while the stakes are zero.

the behavioural principle

under stress, the brain reaches for what's rehearsed.

so we rehearse now, in this room, while stumbling costs nothing.

impromptu rounds

60 seconds to prepare.

a prompt relevant to your role. no more warning than that.

impromptu rounds

90 seconds to speak.

to the full room. standing.

peer feedback

did it anchor, connect, and ask?

ACA gets its first live rep under real pressure.

the hot-seat

one chair. centre of the room.

the group stands in a semicircle around it.

the hot-seat

rapid-fire. on the record.

not a test of your answer. a rehearsal for your composure.

debrief

what held up. what dropped.

not a verdict on you. exactly the data this programme is built to give you.

bridge

day 2 is complete.

structure and presence are now in place.

3
day 3

narrative to stakeholder pitch

session 3 · 2 hours

narrative & founder communication

once clarity and presence are in place, you are ready for storytelling.

reframing storytelling

nobody repeats a bullet point to their board.

they repeat a story.

the origin story

the moment you knew.

not the mission-statement version. the real one.

specificity

where were you? what triggered it?

specificity separates a founder story from a founder slogan.

the test

persuasion vs. manipulation

would you tell it the same way if the audience weren't in the room?

vocabulary

don't sell the story.

earn its credibility.

the fishbowl

inner circle presents.

outer ring gives feedback through ACA.

the fishbowl

90 seconds. rotate.

until everyone in the circle has presented once.

debrief

did it anchor, connect, and leave them wanting to ask something?

bridge

you told this story to people who already like you.

tomorrow's version has to work on people who don't.

extension · 2 hours

from story to stakeholder pitch

translating personal narrative into business narrative.

framing the shift

your story built trust.

now put that architecture underneath something commercial.

the rebuild

bring one real, current pitch.

something you actually need. not a hypothetical.

the formula

BLUF + ACA + one narrative beat.

structure, framework, and story. combined.

coaching

small clusters. 1:1 support.

facilitators circulate while you rebuild.

the gallery walk

small groups, stationed around the room.

deliver your pitch in 3 minutes.

feedback

what anchored? what connected?

what question were you left wanting to ask?

rotate

one station over. repeat.

until every group has presented.

synthesis

structure. presence. narrative.

all three, applied to one real piece of communication.

post-session action

record a before-and-after.

apply ACA to one real conversation this week. send both recordings.

closing

not sounding better.
thinking more clearly, on purpose, under pressure.
